Go Julia!

EPISODES 616-622

Barnabas not thrilled about
 the new living arrangements
Upon discovering Barnabas is a victim of a vampire, Julia freaks out and decides that the best way to keep him away from this vampire is to lock him up in the cell, down at the cellar. Irony here is that only a year ago, Barnabas had kept Maggie there as his own victim so it's good to see karma bites him in the ass. But then again didn't it always, considering his whole life is now and has always been totally and irreversibly doomed after that one night stand with Angelique centuries ago? Anyway, they fail to keep the man locked up even for an hour for Barnabas knocks Willie out cold with a (sugar glass) bottle and sneaks out through the secret passage that Maggie once used to escape from Barnabas himself.

If this fountain could talk
Meanwhile in Collinwood, Vicki and Jeff set a date for their wedding (next month) not aware neither of the drama taking place at the Old House nor Eve watching them from outside in the shadows. Liz settles to postpone her gloominess 'cause a wedding is a joyful occasion. However, this wedding has far too many dark clouds clustering above it. Eve catches up with Jeff at the terrace and pushes him even more to remember his past life. When the talking doesn't work, she goes for a kiss to stir up his memory.. just in time for Roger, of all people, to see!!

Roger concerned
about Vicki's life
Eve runs away like a wounded gazelle and Jeff begs Roger to keep "this" to himself. But Roger isn't a man to be reasoned with (he is a man to be hit on the head and dumped in the ocean but nobody listens to me), so he rushes inside to find Vicki while making a big scene. Poor, dumb Vicki tries to guess what the scandal Roger makes out to be is but seeing how she'd be hurt by this knowledge, Roger makes up a lie about Barnabas being missing (which coincidentaly enough is very true). When Vicki is convinced it is all Roger worrying for no reason, Roger and Jeff have the talk about "if you ever hurt Vicki young man..". Roger is almost loveable. Almost. Later that night, he has a nightmare about Vicki's wedding and is convinced that he has to stop it for her sake. The next day, he tells her about the dream but still not about the kiss (Wow, is he turning into a considerate man afterall?). Of course a dream ain't enough reason to call off a wedding, so they agree to disagree.

Barnabas being a drama queen
Then, Julia arrives and announces that Barnabas is missing. Barnabas, meanwhile, has met up with Angelique at a hut in the woods. When the morning comes and Angelique has to leave, Barnabas summons all his will to summon Vicki; for some reason there's a supposed connection between them that hasn't been mentioned before. I was thinking "in your dreams you pervert" but then, it does work and Vicki leaves Collinwood in a hurry and heads to the woods where she finds Barnabas. With a very dramatic performance, he claims "It's too late" before passing out, only to awaken few seconds later so obviously it isn't too late for anything (maybe acting school). He doesn't want anyone to see him, so he politely asks orders Vicki to hide him. Our poor, dumb Vicki takes the word of a delirious man and sneaks him into the west wing of Collinwood. If there ever is a political metaphor here about the west wing and fugitives hiding there, I can't make out what it is.

Julia's showdown face
Aaanyway, Julia visits Joe at the hospital to find out more about the mysterious vampire but he isn't able to tell much because of Angelique's influence. Julia says she understands for she too was a vampire's bitch not long ago and reveals that vampire was Joe's cousin, Tom Jennings and how he met the sharp end of the stake. Julia eventually railroads Joe into saying (not in so many words) the vampire is at Nicholas' house and she goes "I've got to have a showdown with Nicholas Blair!" Yeaaah! (I actually yeah'd out loud then). Her epicness doesn't stop there; she goes to his house right away and confronts the warlock. She puts all her cards on the table without showing a sign of fear whereas Nicholas denies everything and plays the fool with his stupid grin that I wanna hit in with a shovel.

After Julia leaves, Nicholas has a tense talk with Angelique, where she gets slapped around and talked down on (and rubbed on with a dried flower. Don't ask). She promises for the hundredth time not to bite Barnabas again. Meanwhile Julia hides in the woods, outside Nicholas' house and sees Angelique come out of the house. I'm gonna let her expressions talk for itself:

Julia's shocked/disturbed/worried/miscellaneous face(s)

Will the "golden shot bite" work?
Later, Angelique comes back and uses Nicholas' mirror to locate Barnabas (when Nicholas is obviously out doing devil knows what unspeakable things with/to Maggie). The mirror shows Barnabas lying in the west wing, with a cross that he'd requested from Vicki earlier in his hand. She figures it is because of that cross he isn't answering her summons, so Angelique convinces Adam to go and get it from him after some serious mendacity. Vicki picks this perfect moment to leave Barnabas alone to finally tell Julia about his whereabouts. During her absence, Adam sneaks in and takes the cross from his hands. When Julia and Vicki come back, Barnabas is already gone. Angelique meets up with him in the woods to do "the golden bite" that will turn Barnabas into a vampyr. After the bite, the dawn breaks (the infamous "cock-a-doodle-do") and Angelique leaves him there in the woods, to die!!

Julia's wits & balls
saves Barnabas
Julia and Willie look for Barnabas everywhere but when they fail to find him, Julia once again knocks on Nicholas' door. Seeing Adam is suffering from the same fatigue as Barnabas, Julia plays that card to convince Nicholas: If he wants Adam to live; he has to destroy Angelique. She also gives Adam a series of shots to slow down the effects of the bite (afterall she is the self-appointed authority on the subject; her words not mine), that gives Barnabas enough energy to shout and let Willie locate him. Nicholas still doesn't admit anything but on her way out, Julia leaves a wooden stake on the table "just in case". Once at the Old House, Julia arranges an ambulance to take Barnabas to Windcliff Sanitarium, away from town where Angelique won't be able to find him. Meanwhile, in his own house Nicholas gets down to the cellar to finish Angelique off but finds her empty coffin instead. She also took his magic mirror.

In her hideout place, Angelique uses the mirror to spy on Nicholas and Eve have a conversation about Barnabas and Angelique's whereabouts. Eve is going about her business, reading a magazine like a fashionable and carefree undead women in her 30s would do but Nicholas tells her to spy on Jeff in case Angelique makes contact with him, to which Eve says yes 'cause it's simply another chance to torment the man. And so she does and spies on Jeff and Vicki like an obsessed lunatic. But the important thing here is, later Angelique approaches Eve and offers a partnership. If Eve diverts Nicholas away; Angelique will help her find the evidence she needs to prove Jeff Clark is Peter Bradford. Me like this alliance!

Unholy alliance of evil women!

So, Eve lies to Nicholas about seeing Angelique somewhere in town to make him leave the house. When it's safe, Angelique comes in and uses a medallion to cast a spell that sends Eve back in time, only for six hours, to the infamous year 1795!!!

LET'S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIIIN!
